Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about CodeGuessr's daily challenges, classroom features, and technical support.

Getting Started

What is CodeGuessr and how does it work?

CodeGuessr is a daily coding challenge game inspired by Wordle. Each day, we present a code snippet and you have 6 attempts to guess what it will output when run. You receive color-coded feedback to help you learn programming concepts through gamified practice.

Do I need programming experience to play?

Not at all! CodeGuessr is designed for all skill levels. Complete beginners can learn basic programming concepts through the color-coded feedback system, while experienced programmers can test their knowledge across different languages and challenging scenarios.

Is CodeGuessr free to use?

Yes! Individual players can use CodeGuessr completely free with full access to daily challenges, progress tracking, and streak counters. We offer paid plans for educators who want classroom management features and detailed analytics.

What programming languages are supported?

Currently, CodeGuessr features challenges primarily in Python and JavaScript. We're actively working on expanding to Java, C++, and other popular programming languages based on user feedback and educational demand.

Daily Challenges

How many attempts do I get per challenge?

You get exactly 6 attempts to guess the correct output for each daily challenge, just like Wordle. Use the color-coded feedback from each guess to narrow down the correct answer.

What do the different colors mean in the feedback?

Blue means the character is correct and in the right position. Purple means the character exists in the output but is in the wrong position. Red means the character is not in the correct output at all.

When are new challenges released?

New daily challenges are released every day at midnight local time.

What happens if I don't solve the challenge in 6 attempts?

If you don't solve the challenge within 6 attempts, you can still see the correct answer and a detailed explanation of how the code works (if signed in). Your streak will reset, but you can start building a new one the next day.

Accounts & Progress

Do I need to create an account to play?

No, absolutely not! You can play as a guest to try CodeGuessr, but creating an account unlocks all the features!

How are streaks calculated?

Streaks count consecutive days where you successfully solve the daily challenge within 6 attempts. It doesn't matter if you solve it on your first try or sixth try - any successful solution counts.

Can I change my username or profile information?

Yes! You can update your username, display name, avatar (profile picture), and other profile information in your account profile and settings. Keep in mind that your username should be appropriate for educational environments if you plan to join classes.

How do I delete my account and data?

You can delete your account from the account settings page. This will permanently remove all your data, including progress, statistics, memberships (remember to stop active memberships if you have any), and personal information. This action cannot be undone, we cannot revive your data.

Classes & Education

How do I join my teacher's class?

Get a 6-digit class code from your teacher, visit codeguessr.com/join-class, enter the code exactly as provided (case-sensitive), and create your student account. You'll automatically be enrolled and can participate in class leaderboards and activities.

Can I be in multiple classes at the same time?

Yes! You can join multiple teachers' classes simultaneously. Each class has its own leaderboard, progress tracking, and assignments. Your individual progress is tracked separately for each class.

What if my class code doesn't work?

Double-check the code with your teacher - codes are case-sensitive and must be entered exactly. Make sure there are no extra spaces. The class might be full or the code might have expired. Contact your teacher for a new code if needed.

What information can my teacher see about my progress?

Teachers can see your completion rates, accuracy, time spent on challenges, streak information, and overall progress trends. They cannot see your individual attempts or guesses - only your final results and learning patterns. Teachers cannot see your personal stats and your personal games.

Teachers & Educators

How do I become a verified teacher on CodeGuessr?

Visit our Teacher Verification page, provide your educational credentials and institutional information, and submit your application. We typically process applications within 48 hours and will email you with approval status.

What are the different teacher subscription plans?

We offer three plans: Free (1 class, 30 students), Basic ($20/month, 3 classes, 150 students), and Pro ($50/month, 5 classes, 250 students). Higher tiers include advanced analytics, custom challenge creation, gradebook export, and priority support.

Can I create custom challenges for my students?

Yes! The Pro plan includes custom challenge creation tools. You can design challenges tailored to your curriculum, set appropriate difficulty levels, choose programming languages, and schedule them for specific dates.

How do I export student grades and progress data?

All paid plans include comprehensive data export functionality. You can download student rosters, performance analytics, completion records, and gradebooks in CSV format for easy integration with your school's systems.
